Our Stainless Steel Bowls: What They're Made Of and Why They're Safe for Your Pets

Mealtime should be the best part of your pet's day, and the bowl they eat from matters. Here's exactly what our stainless steel feeding bowls are made of, how they've been tested, and how to keep them in top shape for your dog or cat.

What kind of stainless steel do you use?

Our stainless steel feeding bowls are made from SUS 201 stainless steel. SUS 201 is an austenitic stainless steel from the 200 series. It replaces part of the nickel found in 300-series grades with manganese and nitrogen, which gives a hard-wearing, rust-resistant bowl with a lower nickel content.

Is it safe for my dog or cat?

Yes. Our SUS 201 stainless bowl passed independent laboratory testing for food contact. Here's why stainless is a healthy choice for everyday meals:

  • Nothing coated, nothing painted. The surface your pet eats from is bare stainless steel, with no coatings, dyes or plastics touching their food.
  • Non-porous and easy to keep clean. Stainless steel doesn't trap food residue the way scratched plastic bowls can, so it's easier to keep hygienic.
  • Built for enthusiastic eaters. It won't chip, crack or shatter, so there are no sharp fragments to worry about.

How was it tested?

A SUS 201 stainless bowl from our production was tested by Intertek, an independent testing laboratory, against US FDA food contact requirements (including FDA CPG 7117 and 21 CFR 170–189).

Result: Pass. The lab checked for heavy metals that could leach from the bowl into food:

Leachable metal Result
Lead (Pb) Not detected
Cadmium (Cd) Not detected
Arsenic (As) Not detected
Mercury (Hg) Not detected

The bowl also passed testing for salt-spray corrosion, dishwasher and hand-wash durability, drops, humidity, temperature extremes, sharp edges and leaks.

Caring for your stainless bowls

  • Top-rack dishwasher safe, or hand wash with warm, soapy water.
  • Not for microwave use.
  • Skip steel wool and chlorine bleach, which can scratch or dull the finish.
  • Wash after every meal, especially when feeding raw or wet food.
